 Ananova:
Jail-bird to be freed as a woman

An armed robber has been given a £20,000 sex-change paid for by taxpayers - and will finish his sentence in a women's prison.

David Cross, 39, has now become Kelly Denise following the operation at a London hospital.

Cross was jailed for 17 years in 1992 for staging a post office raid to try and raise money for a private sex swap operation in Switzerland.

During the hold-up at Polegate, East Sussex, he wore a blonde wig and sexy basque stockings under his mechanic's overalls.

He blasted a security screen with a shotgun injuring a post master and his baby son.

It is believed to be the first time a convicted prisoner serving time has been given a sex swap, reports The Sun.

Cross started his sentence in Parkhurst prison on the Isle of Wight but will now be moved to a women's jail.
